Yeezy x Gap – Everything You Need to Know About The Unexpected Collab
After dropping a new Yeezy collection in March, Mr. West is shaking up the fashion industry once again with an unexpected yet promising collaboration with the emblematic navy label GAP.
With COVID-19 in the works, this year was definitely not one of the most productive for the fashion world. But for fashion and music mogul Kanye West, it was quite a different story.
Despite this year’s luxury retail downfall and the toll it’s taking on major brands, the partnership with the billionaire rapper is expected to rescue the emblematic blue logo retailer Gap, as the company lost nearly $1 billion during the COVID-19 pandemic. West signed a deal to team up with the American brand for a 10-year partnership as announced on June 26.
West is usually known for his atypical collaborations, and has always been vocal about his vision to make high fashion accessible to the masses. He was even criticized for the idea, being told that the business model isn’t profitable. But this latest collab proves the naysayers wrong. As a teenager, West used to work at a Chicago Gap store, solidifying his nostalgic connection to the famous retailer. In 2015, he told Style.com that he wanted to be the Steve Jobs of Gap, and five years later, he made the move.
As the press release stated, “under Mr. West’s creative direction, plans to create “modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points.” Mr. West’s “design vision” will extend to how the line will be showcased in Gap’s stores and online.” Thus, Kanye West upgrading Gap is a collaboration we certainly won’t miss.
The clothing line, entitled Yeezy Gap, will be introduced in stores and online in the first half of 2021.
